Classic Rallying - Ford Escort and Datsun 240Z

Описание: The first round of the ECCRS was held at the Mitta Mountain Rally over the weekend and we check out all the action from the Victorian High Country.

The Mitta Mountain Rally was looking like being a battle of the Escorts. But the eventual winner was Brian Semmens and Dan Perry in a Nissan 200SX.

Luke Sytema is planning on doing at least 4 rounds and has a pretty simple strategy, go flat out.

For Thomas Dermody he knows it’s not going to be an easy win, but In Stage 1, Dermody and co-driver Owen Moynihan were off to a good start. They were second, just 6 seconds behind Sytema.
But in the second stage, things were about to go uncharacteristically wrong and he stuck it off the road. Dermody was stuck solid on logs and would have to retire from Heat 1. He rejoined for heat 2, taking the heat win and valuable East Coast Classic points.

For Luke Sytema and co-driver Adam Wright, they’d take the heat one victory for the East Coast Classic, but the final stage was not kind to the team and for heat 2, they’d finish in 5th. Overall, Sytema would be 2nd outright and leave with enough points to be in 2nd in the series.

Peter Dimmock and Pete Hellwig would finish well up the order in the East Coast Classic Series. They were 3rd fastest in 3 of the five stages and by the end of the last stage, had finished the event in 3rd outright and despite the heat enjoyed the 55km marathon.

Peter Vlandis and Mal Sinfield were 4th in the classics, throwing the Volvo 242GT around the Victorian high country forests.

And rounding out the top 5 in the East Coast Classic Series was Bruce Garland and Stephen Green in the Mark 1 Escort.
