Making a very simple oscilloscope Pt.15: def. schematics, Hor. Amp & Vert. Amp & time base + wiring

Описание: Please read the description/textbox first. Also the disclaimer. Part 15 of the series about how to make a simple oscilloscope, say usable for audio studies (5 Hertz-22 KC). In this video the complete setup is showed: the HOR. and VERT. amplifier + how to connect them to the CRT plates and the time base (sawtooth) generator.

Please note: the 718 V supply and the (say) 300 V supply only need currents in the 500 uA (Micro Ampère) up to (say, maximum) 2 mA (Milli-Amp) range to make this work. So the wattage (=power) needed to make the CRT work is extremely low: 700 V x 1 mA = 700 MilliWatt = 0,7 Watt (max. 1 Watt). Thus: dont make a 700 Volt power supply that can deliver more than 1 Watt, it can be/will be lethal when you touch it ! This is a disclaimer, be very very careful. Circuit not made for kids, also not made for people with heart problems.

The Vertical amplifier is a kind of Audio amplifier (5Hz-20 KC or even 34 KC), but adapted to create voltage to the vertical plates of the Cathode Ray Tube. These deflection plates need no current (compared: when driving a low impedance loudspeaker on say 4-32 Ohm current (!) is key..).But these deflection plates are driven with pure Voltages, the current is in the uA (Micro Ampère) range, say 2 or 5 Micro Ampere to make dots on the CRT move from the left to the right or from up to down.

Max Voltages that the vertical Amplifier can produce in this case is (approx.) 50 AC Volts, when it is supplied via 108 Volts DC. That means that a signal of 1 Volt AC on the input (to the pre-amp, schematic in the video) can maximum be written out on the screen at 2-3 (vertical) centimeters, given the deflection sensitivity of the CRT DG 7-32.

That is acceptable, given this very basic setup. Via the time base generator and by tuning the driver voltage to the Horizontal amplifier we can get to (max.) 20/32 KC.

Trigger signal level/sync. is set via a 1 M Potentiometer in series to the time base generator input. Schematic C shows it all exactly, how the wiring has to be done. There was much more about this issue in earlier videos e.g. here, Video link

So the idea is: first get a sharp dot on the screen of a CRT (via properly connecting the brightness & focus grid potentiometers) and then use these circuits to make a very elementary Oscilloscope.

And that I had to lift up the anode voltage (+ is on ground, zero) to approx. 700 Volts DC to get enough brightness. Also the HOR. Amp needed approx. 300-400 Volt. Scope 13 (=VLOG about the HOR.
