Описание: We bought a 1987 COMPAQ Portable III — because nothing says cutting-edge like a 40-pound laptop that screams, "I do my spreadsheets in a trench coat!" It technically worked except for one minor issue: the keyboard cable had dry rot so bad it looked like a haunted breadstick.

So naturally, we took to the internet—where dreams go to die and also where you can find a vintage replacement cable being sold by a guy named Doug who lives in a barn and accepts payment in quarters.

Then we surgically graft that cable onto the keyboard's PCB like we're starring in Grey’s Anatomy: Floppy Disk Edition. Along the way, we learn a lot: what to do, what not to do, and most importantly — do not cut the plug off any cable before figuring out where the wires go... unless you enjoy guessing games with fire hazards.
