Experience a blast from motorsport’s past as I take on the legendary 1983 Detroit Street Circuit in Assetto Corsa, driving the iconic Porsche 956! This video is your front-row seat to a lap around one of Formula One’s most demanding street tracks, paired with a car that redefined endurance racing.
About the Track: Detroit Street Circuit (1983 Layout)
The Detroit Street Circuit, set against the backdrop of the Renaissance Center and Cobo Arena, is infamous for its bumpy surface, unforgiving concrete walls, and a labyrinth of 22 corners over 2.5 miles (4.023 km). In the 1980s, it was considered one of the most challenging Grand Prix venues, pushing both drivers and machines to their limits with relentless braking zones and gear changes. The 1983 layout, featured in this mod, is a faithful recreation-expect tight hairpins, fast esses, and the signature tunnel section that plunges you into darkness before launching you back into the sunlight.
About the Car: Porsche 956 (1982 Le Mans)
The Porsche 956 stands as a titan in racing history-a Group C prototype that dominated Le Mans and the World Endurance Championship in the early 1980s. Powered by a 2.65L twin-turbo flat-six producing around 620 hp and weighing just 820 kg, the 956 was the first Porsche to feature an aluminum monocoque chassis and pioneering ground-effect aerodynamics for massive downforce. Its blend of raw power, technical innovation, and legendary reliability made it a benchmark for racing prototypes.

The visceral sound and speed of the Porsche 956 as it tackles the circuit’s tight hairpins, fast chicanes, and rapid-fire gear changes.
Insights into how the 956’s ground-effect grip and turbocharged power help (and sometimes hinder) on a street circuit built for attrition, not comfort.
A look at the mod’s attention to detail, from period-correct textures to authentic AI and camera work.
Why This Combo?
Pairing the Porsche 956 with Detroit’s 1983 street circuit is a true test of skill and nerve-combining one of the world’s greatest endurance cars with a track that demands absolute precision. Whether you’re a sim racing fan, a motorsport history buff, or just love seeing classic machinery pushed to the limit, this is a ride you won’t want to miss.

Note: The setting causing odd "mirroring" issue at sides of track was CSP -] General Patch Settings -] Chunks Optimization. I had it set to 'Advanced (experimental)'. Resetting it to the default, 'Basic', resolved the issue and did not seem to have negative side-effects. See https://www.overtake.gg/threads/color....
