In my version the Riddler was a genius level neurologist/doctor working in Gotham general when his wife was poisoned and scarred for life after using the jokers deadly shopping products.
Nygma decides to shut off here life support effectively putting her out of pain and thus grows his rage and anger as he realizes his life is now over he blames batman for creating these crazy super villains and then over a period of five years sets out his plan to discover the identity of batman and bring down his world using only his brilliant mind....
