HOW India is silently building its energy security based on Six Course Actions by 2023
imports 85 percent and 50 percent of its natural gas requirements,
119 Bn USD was imported last year out of the FE reserve of 560 Bn.
Energy - 7,5% CPI.
India’s 6-course energy security strategy revolves around
diversifying the number of countries sourcing
focus Exploration,
switching to alternative energy sources
Green hydrogen
Mixing ethanol
EV
Six Course Actions
Diversifying its Sources
Crude oil suppliers from 27 countries in 2006-07 to 39 in 2021-22, adding new suppliers like Columbia, Russia, Libya, and Equatorial Guinea.
Increase exploration Acreage
Focussed Exploration: The government is targeting to increase India’s exploration acreage from Presently 0.2 Million sq Km to 0.5 million square kilometers by 2025 (an increase of 120%) and 1 million sq km by 2030 an increase of 250%.
Exploration over a wider area will yield more discoveries, raising domestic oil and gas output and cutting reliance on imports.
Renewable Energy
Renewal Energy means Large Hydro, Wind, Nuclear, and Solar Power
India stands 4th globally with an installed capacity of 172.72 GW and is set to touch 500 GW capacity by 2030,; The present ability is 42.24% of the total power generated. Data in Graphics
The Government has recently sanctioned 56 solar Parks with 39.28 GW capacity
Many More – Providing Solar Pumps, a National portal for installing rooftop solar, transmission lines, and substations, Massive wind energy capacity added, PLI Schemes for high-efficiency PV modules, and a state of art Solar powered village in Gujarat.
E. Green Hydrogen
And for making India a hub for the production of green hydrogen – the fuel of the future which has zero carbon footprint – an incentive of Rs 19,744 crore under the National Green Hydrogen Mission has been announced, the target is to produce at least 5 million tonnes per annum of green hydrogen by 2030.
The major companies that are in the process of producing Green Hydrogen:

Ethanol mixing
Also, India increased the ethanol blending in petrol from 1.5 percent in 2013-14 to 10 percent in 2022 and advanced its target to achieve 20 percent ethanol blending in petrol from 2030 to 2025-26. The phased rollout of E20 will commence on April 1, 2023,
India saved as much as ₹53,894 crores in forex outgo from 10 percent blending besides benefiting the farmers.
Key companies in the Indian Ethanol Market include India Glycols Limited., Balrampur Chini Mills Limited,
Uttar Pradesh is set to be the top ethanol producer in the country as the size of the industry in the state has crossed Rs 12,000 crore mark.
Simultaneously, the government is supplementing supplies by setting up compressed biogas (CBG) plants that use animal and agri waste to produce gas.
EV, CNG, and LPG at 22000 Petrol Pumps
Towards energy transition, fuel retailers are setting up alternative energy sources such as EV charging, CNG, and LPG at 22,000 petrol pumps by May 2024
