ABOUT DHOLAK INSTRUMENT

The Dholak is one of the most widely used drum in the Indian classical music instrumental. It is not used for classical music where the Tabla liga mix and Pakhavaj are at the forefront. Dholak is a double headed drum with the bass head on one side & the treble head on the other.Dholak is mainly use with bhajans and Bollywood hindi songs. Dholak is a popular instrument in film music and qawwali.Dholak beats are most commonly used for weddings and mehndi.

The Dholak is made from sheesham wood. Dholak is about rhythm, sound including quality of sound and the pitch.There are two best techniques of playing dholak the open hand method is suitable for loud playing and the controlled finger method for articulate performance.

BEGINNER DHOLAK LEARNING PROCESS-
------------------------------------------------------------------
1-As a beginner to learn all basic beats of dholak you have to start from basics.
2-Try to play basic beats slowly(don't go faster in the beginning)
3-Now play music and try to play dholak with that or practice with harmonium or violin or flute or guitar.
4-Add variations and fillers with the help of my videos.
5-Try to innovate new rhythmic compositions on you own.
6-Keep practiceing always.
