Alabama blocking SNAP cards from purchases to fight fraud

Описание: The Alabama Department of Human Resources (ADHR) announced purchases made in stores outside of Alabama or online on EBT cards will be blocked beginning Jan. 22 in an effort to combat fraud.

Between May 2023 to December 20, 2024, the department replaced $15.9 million of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, benefits that were fraudulently stolen from recipients.

DHR also announced it would begin rolling out chip-enabled EBT cards as a fraud-prevention measure. DHR said all in-state purchases will continue to be processed as usual.

Anyone enrolled in SNAP who wants to make a purchase out of state or online must first unlock their EBT card via the ConnectEBT Mobile App, website, or by calling the EBT customer service phone number.
