Materials and Tools
Organic Materials: Vegetable/fruit scraps, legume leaves, animal manure, straw, rice husks, or other organic materials.
Starter: EM4, molasses, brown sugar, or rice washing water.
Air: Clean water or rainwater.
Tools: Plastic bucket/barrel, filter cloth, small hose (optional for airlock), jerry can/bottle.
Preparation Steps
Prepare the Materials: Chop or finely chop the organic materials to facilitate decomposition. If using animal manure, ensure they are dry.
Mix the Starter Solution: Dissolve the brown sugar/molasses in water (e.g., 1 kg of sugar to 5 liters of water). Add EM4 (100-200 ml to the same amount of water) and stir thoroughly.
Fermentation (Anaerobic): Place the organic materials in a container (2/3 full). Pour in the starter solution. Close the container tightly; you can use a small hose to release the gas (airlock system). Store in a cool, dry place for 14-21 days.
Stir Regularly: Stir the mixture every 3-5 days to ensure even fermentation.
Filtering: Once the fermented liquid smells like fermented tape and turns brown, strain the liquid from the dregs using a fine cloth.
