Sammy the squirrel is rotund & happy. He's instinctively bulked himself up for the long, hard, cold winter in his 72 degree climate controlled room.
At least he fattened up on squirrel healthy foods. No junk foods for Sammy.
We rescued Sammy when he was 5 weeks old, after he fell out of a tree. We tried to release him back outside twice but he didn't want to go. This is very unusual for a squirrel, most will wild up, start biting and chew on everything. We never expected to have a squirrel decide our house was his home. Keeping a squirrel healthy with diet, exercise and special lighting is much more complicated than we could imagine. We do not recommend squirrels as pets. They are illegal to have in most US states. Sammy is one in a million.
