Chinese ministers outline AI, chip and robotics breakthu as nation prepares for next five-year plan

Описание: Chinese ministers met the press on Thursday after the opening of the fourth session of the 14th National People’s Congress, outlining China’s technology and industrial priorities as the country prepares to enter the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030).

The Minister of Science and Technology called the 2026–2030 period a critical window for achieving technological self-reliance, focusing on breakthroughs in AI algorithms, high-end chips and other frontier technologies. Yin Hejun has highlighted rapid progress in sci-tech innovation, including advanced humanoid robots, world-leading open-source large models and new breakthroughs in chip research.

The Minister of Industry and Information Technology said 2026 will move from AI adoption to deep "two-way pursuit" of AI and manufacturing.

Meanwhile, centrally administered state-owned enterprises are also advancing frontier technologies. Major breakthroughs include the “Tianyan 504” quantum computer and the “Jiutian” drone for the low-altitude economy, said Zhang Yuzhuo, chairman of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council. Looking ahead, SASAC aims to concentrate state capital in three key areas: national security and the lifeline of the economy, public services and emergency capabilities, and forward-looking strategic emerging industries.

The annual meetings is seen as a key moment for setting China’s economic and technology strategy for the next five years.
