Written pattern for this stitch:

Make a number of chains matching your desired width. Keep in mind that the first loop on your hook counts as a stitch, so make the exact number of chains desired. Chain 1 (let's call this your anchor chain).


Yarn over (this plus loop already on hook counts as a stitch), insert hook into the second stitch from hook, and pull up a loop. Leaving the loop on hook, yarn over and insert into the next chain to pull up a loop. Keep doing this until the end of the row.


Note: Stitch loops are counted as multiples of two plus 1 or double the number of chains made minus 1


Return Pass:

Yarn over and pull through 3 loops. Rpt until end of row. This will be the same throughout.


To form the DK stitch:

Looking at the front and back of your stitches, you should see two vertical bars of the front and two vertical bars at the back.  


On the back, there may appear to be 3 bars, but the middle bar is the right-most bar from the front. Yarn over and insert hook between the left-most bar and the right-most bar on the front and to the left of the middle bar and the right of the left-most bar on the back. This is necessary in order for the stitch to form.


You will know you're doing it right when you see the V-like pattern forming on both sides. This may take a few rows to see clearly, so practice a bit to be sure you're getting it right before jumping into any projects.


For the last stitch, yarn over and insert the hook as you normally would to end the tunisian crochet row. (I.e. into the two bars of the ending chain on the side). Your last loop always counts as your anchor loop for your last stitch. That's why you'll yarn over and pull through 3 rather than pull through 1. If you pull through 1, then 3 until the end of row, you'll get a gap between your 2nd to last and last stitch.


Rpt starting from return pass until you have your desired length.


Using either slip stitch or sc, do your bind off stitches following the double knit pattern. Sc is recommended as it adds further to the knit look.
