How To Change All Eight Bearings in Your Polaris 280

I show you in this video how to change all eight of the wheel bearings in the Polaris 280 (180). I posted a short video last year, but this one is more in depth and covers some problems you may run into. I had to turn one bearing out with a wrench and cut another one off with a razor blade.

This Polaris is roughly 12 years old, maybe older. It has been in the pool since I started servicing the account over eight years ago, so I am just guessing about the actual age. I can tell you from doing the bearings that they are the original ones that came with the cleaner. A couple of them were in there so tight that they felt like permanent parts of the cleaner. Almost all of them came apart when I was doing this.

One on the back wheel broke off but part of the bearing stayed on the axle -- I called it the shaft in the video. I had to use a wrench to twist it and loosen it so I could then remove it. The one inside the small wheel was on there so tight that I had to cut it off with a razor blade. Some of the parts in the small wheel were also worn and I will replace them (and film it for another video).

Sometimes it is hard to film these videos at home due to my pesky son ;) - he actually has a great sense of humor and wasn't too bad.
