Welcome back to another week of #Tutorialtuesday. Today, I am going to break down a simple and fun technique for choosing and mixing colors so you will be able to easily paint any season by its color associations or mood.

One of my favorite ways to get started on a new painting is actually fully mood based. Either I paint my mood or I paint something to change my mood. Maybe it’s cold and I want to warm up, or sometimes I am overjoyed and I want to paint bold and colorful scenes, other times I really want to soften and quiet down so a pastel scene its a great choice. Color mixing can be very personal to the artist, or it can be intentional as we utilize technique to achieve a particular target. Today, I am going to show you how to use intention to warm us up, and transport us in to the summer.

Below I have a small chart that breaks down each color used for this 4 Square Tutorial on Seasonal Color Mixing SUMMER EDITION. I want to start talking about their associated moods so we can paint by the "mood" or "feeling" of a location.

Summer Pallet:
Titanium White
Mood: Purity, Clarity, Openness, New Beginnings
Seasonal Association: All - Snow, Frost, Crisp Highlights

Cadmium Yellow
Mood: Cheerful, Positivity, Mental Clarity, Energy, Warmth
Seasonal Association: Summer - Sunlight, Warmth, Energy

Yellow Ochre
Mood: Grounding, Stability, Warmth, Wisdom
Seasonal Association: Summer & Autumn - Golden Leaves, Earthy Tones, Harvest Colors

Indian Yellow
Mood: Optimism, Warmth, Inspitation, Creativity
Seasonal Association: Autumn - Warm Sunsets, Golden Foliage, Late Summer Fields

Bright Red
Mood: Passion, Energy, Excitement, Boldness
Seasonal Association: Winter & Wummer - Holiday Warmth, Berries, Flowers

Alizarin Crimson
Mood: Deep Emotions, Romance, Sophistication, Nostalgia
Seasonal Association: Summer, Autumn & Winter, Deep Red Leaves, Holiday Warmth, Rich Warm Shadows

Phthalo Green
Mood: Balance, Renewal, Healing, Nature
Seasonal Association: Spring & Summer - Lush Greens, Tropical Waters, Fresh Growth

Phthalo Blue
Mood: Calmness, Depth, Intelligence, Serenity
Seasonal Association: Winter & Summer, Cool Frozen Winter, Deep Summer Shadows

Sap Green
Mood: Nature, Harmony, Relaxation, Natural Balance
Seasonal Association: Spring & Summer, Gresh Leaves, New PLant Groqth, Natural Renewal

Earthy Olive Green: Yellow Ochre + Phthalo Green
Mood: Grounding, Connection to Nature, Stability
Seasonal Association: Autumn, Spring & Summer - Mossy Forests, Muted Grasslands, Earth Tones

Warm Rock Mix: Dark Sienna + Bright Red
Mood: Strength, Warmth, Natural Beauty, Rustic Charm
Seasonal Association: Summer & Autumn - Sun-Warmed Cliffs, Rustic Stones, Golden Hour Highlights, Shorelines

Ocean Mix: Prussian Blue + 1/4 Midnight Black + 1/4 Phthalo Blue
Mood: Depth, Mystery, Tranquility, Vastness
Seasonal Association: Summer - Rolling Waves, Deep Seas, Coastal Storms
