The Cretan Ibex is an endemic species of a wild goat which habitat is the island of Crete. It is the only of the two remaining European species of wild goats left (the other one is the Alpine Ibex). The Cretan Ibex is known as Capra Aegagrus Creticus and in the local Cretan language as the Agrimi (αγρίμι = the wild) or Kri-Kri (Κρι- Κρι). There are only 200 animals left in the wild and since the 1960s they are protected by the government. This led to a small increase in the population which is still very vurnerable. Currently there are three remaining areas where the Ibex lives: 1. on the island of Crete in the White Mountains (Lefka Ore, Omalos) in the Samaria Gorge, 2. on the small island of Agioi Theodoroi near Chania and 3. on the small island of Agioi Pantes near Agios Nikolaos.
This unique drone recording was taken on the islet of Agioi Theodoroi.
