Amidst strained relations with India and increasing military activity on the border, Bangladesh is now building up its arsenal of smart weapons. The government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has finalized a decision to purchase the state-of-the-art Cirit laser-guided missile system from Turkey for its air force (BAF). The Directorate General of Defence Purchase (DGDP) in Dhaka issued an international tender for the system on Monday, but reliable sources cited by the North-East News website say this is merely a formality. Bangladesh has already decided to purchase these deadly missiles from the Turkish company Roketsan. This move by Bangladesh to enhance its strike capabilities has become a cause for concern in India's strategic circles.
