While farming conventionally follows four seasons (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter), many farmers colloquially describe three distinct operational seasons: Winter (Planning/Rest), Spring (Planting/Prep), and Summer/Autumn (Growth & Harvest). These periods dictate the cycle of life, growth, and equipment maintenance.
Winter (Planning & Maintenance): Fields are fallow or covered in snow; farmers focus on maintenance, repairing machinery, and planning for the coming year.
Spring (Planting & Prep): As the soil warms, farmers plow, fertilize, and sow seeds. It is a busy time for new life and preparing fields.
Summer & Autumn (Growing & Harvesting): Long days involve managing crop growth and weeds, culminating in the critical, high-labor harvest period.
In some contexts, farmers may humorously refer to the three seasons as Winter. ❄
