BRUCEBOT (Big Robot Underwater Cleaning Environment Bot) is an artificial intelligence–powered system designed to detect submerged waste using computer vision and deep learning. This demo showcases how the system analyzes underwater images and video in real time to identify objects such as plastic bottles, cans, and debris with bounding boxes and confidence scores.
This project is being presented at the Dallas Regional Science and Engineering Fair (DRSEF) as part of research exploring how robotics and AI can support environmental cleanup and aquatic conservation.
The system uses a YOLOv8 object detection model trained on thousands of underwater images to improve detection efficiency and support environmental cleanup efforts. By automating the process of locating underwater trash, BRUCEBOT aims to reduce search time, improve cleanup operations, and contribute to protecting aquatic ecosystems.
