Spatial Data Infrastructure in Lithuania: how it works @BEUC2018

Almost ten years have passed since official announcement of a GIS-based spatial data infrastructure (SDI) in Lithuania, that is now developing into a spatial information infrastructure and a spatial knowledge platform. The presentation is about our approach to building the SDI: making use of ArcGIS technology, INSPIRE legislation and understanding of the needs of the people. Lithuanian spatial information portal geoportal.lt is the core component of the centralised SDI. It is a platform type geoportal with a variety of tools and services designed to bring benefits to Lithuanian economy first, to comply with the INSPIRE requirements next. The biggest value is due to freely accessible data (most of spatial data in Lithuania are already free of charge) and rich thematic contents. Geographic awareness leads to better understanding of our environment. Our future vision is continued systematic development and integration of all national spatial resources.
