I had mentioned yesterday that breathing exercises don't work against my anxiety attacks. Here's why:
Why Breathing Exercises Don’t Work for Me:
1. They bring extra attention to my asthma.
2. Doing them in public brings unwanted attention to yourself, especially at work, school, or at home. You have to be functional enough first to go run to the bathroom or an empty office or something.
3. They do not remove me from the danger/anxiety-inducing situation.
4. Taking the time to focus on my breath increases the bandwidth available in my brain to be aware of my surroundings. When you are still in danger, being in the moment makes panic attacks worse.
