India is all set to get a brand new Parliament building by August 15th, 2022, when the country celebrates its 75th Independence Day.
Going by news reports, the government has invited design and architecture firms to give their ideas for redevelopment of the Parliament Building.
Simultaneously, a plan to redevelop the 3 kilometer Central Vista -- from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate, as well as a new common Secretariat building for all Central government offices has also been proposed.
Work on these projects is likely to begin by next year.
If all goes as per plan, the Monsoon Session of Parliament in 2022 could be held in the newly-developed Parliament building.
According to the govt's Request For Proposal, the new iconic structures will be a legacy for 150 to 200 years at the very least.
