A vibrant commercial center characterized by lots of shops, the Isthmian Games, the sea and the sailors and everything that comes with it, and the Temple of Aphrodite, with a focus on the pagan goddess of love. All of the excessive immorality of the place, so much so that it becomes a byword for sexual license and excess of every kind. And then, of course, some brilliant men and women lived there with their high-sounding discourses and the ponderings of the intelligentsia. This is what Corinth looked like. Similar to Athens, wasn't it? People spent their time debating new knowledge and ideas.

Amidst all this chaos, a little converted Jew walks and says to them, "I'm not going to talk about myself. I'm not going to try to impress you with eloquence either. If I were to do that, you might be fascinated by my ability, rhetoric, capacity in language and philosophical notions that I can promulgate. I’m not going to do that at all because I’m not here to pull crowds. I’m here to proclaim the death of the Lord Jesus Christ, preach His message in a way that would make people abandon their trust in mythical gods and ideologies. I’m here to proclaim the perfect work of God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

They wanted Wisdom! Did he preach wisdom or utter the greatest foolishness in the ears of the elite Corinthians?
