Thakchara Gram Panchayat, under Amarpur R.D. Block of Gomati District, stands today as a powerful example of grassroots democracy led by women.
Elected in 2024 through a democratic process, nine energetic women representatives from six wards have taken charge of local governance with vision, responsibility, and dedication.
Spread over 6.16 square kilometers, with 502 households and a population of 1,875, women now actively shape decisions affecting every family.
The Panchayat has consciously prioritized women’s participation in governance, making democracy more inclusive and effective.
Regular Gram Sabhas every month, Mahila Sabhas every two months, and Bal Sabhas every six months ensure voices from all age groups are heard.
Women actively participate in standing committees, school management committees, village health and nutrition programs, sanitation committees, and child protection forums.
From MGNREGA works in the fields to cultural activities like Alpona, Manasha Mangal, and sports, women are visible leaders in action.
The Panchayat proudly honors senior women leaders like Smt. Champa Debnath, aged nearly 80, symbolizing respect for experience and wisdom.
During Swachhata Hi Seva, over 56 women led cleanliness drives, reinforcing ownership of public spaces.
Health, nutrition, and education are strengthened through 2 schools, 6 Anganwadi Centres, and 1 Health Sub-Centre.
In a unique initiative, a sapling is planted for every girl child, celebrating life while nurturing the future.
Thakchara Gram Panchayat aims to strengthen women’s leadership through capacity building, promote green practices, enhance livelihood opportunities, ensure continuous community participation, and build a resilient, inclusive, and women-friendly governance model for generations to come.
