Update (October 23, 2026): the video says the Strait of Hormuz has "mostly been shut" since February, and the ticker reads "HORMUZ: SHUT". That describes February through September. Kpler tanker data for October puts crude flows through the strait at roughly 60-77% of prewar levels, with US naval escorts, even as tanker attacks rose. The rest of the video stands.
Brent crude touched $116 a barrel on October 23, 2026, its highest since April, on a fresh wave of Houthi strikes on Saudi energy sites and growing expectations that the US will resume strikes on Iran.

The machine behind it: about a fifth of the world's seaborne oil used to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Since the US-Israel attack on Iran on February 28 the strait has been largely shut, with Gulf exports in September at under half of February's level. Saudi Arabia's answer is the East-West Crude Oil Pipeline, 1,200 km from Abqaiq near the Gulf to Yanbu on the Red Sea. It normally carries about 2 million barrels a day; since late March it has run at its full 7 million.

The detour is not free. Goldman Sachs puts the average cost of shipping a barrel of crude by sea above $20, up from about $3 a year ago, with $7 of that a war-risk premium for crossing Hormuz, $4 for ship-to-ship transfers, $4 for fuel, $3 for rerouting and $2 for restrictions on the Iranian fleet.

And the pipe has become the target. Drone strikes in September forced a precautionary shutdown of nearly two weeks, and an October 4 attack on a pumping station halted flows again. This week the Houthis claimed a strike on Aramco facilities at Yanbu, which Saudi officials had not confirmed. Aramco says it wants to expand the line to 10 million barrels a day; the Saudi energy minister says that will take two to three years.
