In a shocking turn of events, Uttar Pradesh police have solved a sensational murder case inspired by the Bollywood thriller "Drishyam." Vimal Soni, a 35-year-old gym trainer, allegedly killed Ekta Gupta, the 32-year-old wife of a prominent businessman, and buried her body within the Officer's Club compound in Kanpur.
The accused was arrested after four months on the run. Vimal and Ekta were in a relationship, but tensions rose when Vimal's family arranged his marriage. On June 24, Ekta confronted Vimal at the gym, leading to an argument. In a bid to silence her, Vimal punched Ekta in the neck, causing her to faint and eventually die.
Inspired by "Drishyam," Vimal buried Ekta's body in a high-profile area, thinking it would evade police scrutiny. He also disposed of their phones and avoided financial transactions to evade arrest. However, after months of evading capture, Vimal contacted his family, leading to his arrest.
The police investigation revealed that Vimal had easy access to government grounds and officer residences due to his connections as a gym trainer for senior officers. The forensic team recovered Ekta's body from the Officer's Club premises, and Vimal confessed to the crime.
Vimal's tactics, learned from the movie, made it challenging for police to track him down. He refrained from using his phone or making financial transactions, leaving minimal digital footprints. Multiple teams were dispatched to various locations, including Delhi, Pune, Agra, Gwalior and Punjab, to trace Vimal.
The breakthrough came when Vimal contacted his family, enabling police to pinpoint his location. Joint Commissioner of Police Harish Chander supervised the excavation, and Ekta's body was recovered.
The case highlights the complexities of investigating crimes inspired by popular culture. Police officials praised the coordinated effort, saying, "The accused's tactics made it difficult, but our teamwork led to his arrest."
Vimal's arrest brings closure to Ekta's family, who had been searching for her since June. The case serves as a reminder of the darker side of human nature and the influence of media on criminal behavior.
