Security footage from Shanghai shows a road suddenly collapsing, forming a massive sinkhole within seconds and damaging nearby structures.
The city is prone to land subsidence due to soft soil conditions, groundwater extraction and rapid construction.
Data from 2017 to 2023 shows that 72% of sinkholes recorded in China were linked to human activity.
Authorities are investigating the incident.
