Описание: Gavi is an evergreen forest area in Seethathod grama panchayat of Konni taluk of Pathanamthitta district . It is part of the Periyar Tiger Reserve in the Western Ghats and has regulated tourist facilities provided by the Forest Development Corporation.

Located at an altitude of about 3,400 feet above sea level, Gavi is a place where the temperature reaches 10 degrees Celsius in the evening even in the height of summer. Another special feature of Gavi is the bald hills rich in meadows . If you look from a hillock here, you can get a distant view of Sabarimala . The rare flowers and trees that come here attract nature lovers. Gavi is also an ideal place for birdwatchers. There is a collection of 323 species of birds here, including the mountain hornbill , the woodpecker , etc. The area is also the habitat of wild animals such as tigers , elephants, leopards, bears. 63 species of animals and 45 species of reptiles are estimated to be found in this area.

The cardamom plantations cultivated here under the 'Grow More Food' scheme were taken over by the Forest Development Corporation. Most of the workers in the cardamom plantation and factory are Tamils ​​who migrated from Sri Lanka in the early eighties . Gavi is their homeland. The Kerala Forest Development Corporation has allowed controlled tourism to protect these Tamils ​​of Sri Lankan origin who have been in the Gavi region for decades. When the cardamom cultivation here faced a major crisis, the workers were denied their salaries for three to four months in a row. Then, the corporation entered the tourism sector and the income increased. With this, the workers are able to pay their salaries without any delay.
