Follow along as I craft a joiner’s mallet from Applewood, blending modern tools with traditional techniques. The process begins with splitting the wood using a Fiskars X5 axe, then shaping and refining each piece to bring the mallet to life. The handle is carefully fitted to the head using a mortise and tenon joint, secured with a walnut wedge for lasting strength.
Every step, from rough shaping with an axe to fine details with a draw knife and whittling knife, is finished with care. A final coat of linseed oil enhances the natural beauty of the wood, making this mallet both functional and timeless.
No narration—just the soothing sounds of tools and craftsmanship in action.

Flexcut whittling knife
18V Hitachi drill with 16mm and 22mm bits
