Every month, Ken Fisher, founder, Executive Chairman and Co-Chief Investment Officer of Fisher Investments, reviews and answers viewer questions. In this installment, Ken explores Sir John Templeton’s famous maxim about how investor sentiment evolves over a bull market cycle. Ken says the four phases Templeton describes—pessimism, skepticism, optimism and euphoria—don’t necessarily develop in a straight line, and each phase can have a different duration. For example, Ken discusses how sentiment took longer to reach euphoria in the late 1990s leading up to the tech bubble thanks to external fears including Y2K and the Russian ruble crisis.
Ken also addresses questions on the significance of earnings yields, the differences between short- and long-term interest rates and whether the recent momentum in stock prices can continue and more. If you are interested in Ken addressing your questions in a future video, be sure to leave them in the comments section below.
