The Indus River is once again under serious threat in Tehsil Prova, where illegal electric fishing is openly taking place. In the greed to catch more fish, electric current is being used in the Indus River and nearby drains, posing a grave danger to rare Blind Dolphins and other aquatic life.
Despite repeated incidents, the Fisheries Department has once again turned a blind eye. Previously, illegal contractors were involved in electric fishing, and after public reporting, the Wildlife Department rescued a baby Blind Dolphin from hunters’ traps. Unfortunately, the situation has worsened again, and unchecked electric fishing is at its peak.
Local residents demand immediate action against illegal fishing, strict punishment for involved contractors, and accountability of fisheries officials who remain silent while the Indus River ecosystem is destroyed.
