So many beautiful Brazilian melodies- and this is one of them. If you've been lucky enough to attend one of Johnny's concerts you've heard him mention his love for this music and many elements of this country, and listened to him sing at least one or more Brazilian songs. I believe this is among his favorites- hard to choose though, I'm sure. Originally part of a CD created with Sergio Mendes in the early 1980's, while the whole CD was not released, some of these have been released in collections of Johnny's work. This particular song can be found on "Johnny Mathis Gold- A 50th Anniversary Celebration". A sensitive collaboration between Brazilian composer and artist Sergio Mendes, and the lyrics of Alan and Marilyn Bergman who -- "express the desires of romance with rare sophistication" ( a quote by Johnny from his "How Do You Keep the Music Playing CD", and which bears repeating). The 'sumptuous' Samba rhythm is infectious I've loved it from the first moment I heard it many years ago - in the works of Antonio Carlos Jobim, Joao Gilberto, and on and on. While many wonderful artists have sung the Bergman's work, I think it impossible to find anyone who engenders the sensitivity of their words- adding a layer unparalleld. Enjoy as you drift into reverie while experiencing "that voice, that voice, that wonderful voice..", expressing the tender 'angst' of love's longing.
While the ocean/island photos are from a personal collection from Santorini, Greece (another land for lovers), you might imagine yourself in some romantic Brazilian moment.
