In this video I build a simple survival canoe from hazelnut branches, jute cord and a cheap tarp from the DIY store. Everything is cut and carved with a pocket knife. Unlike in the other videos, the canoe is not made in my workshop, but in the forest.
The canoe has a length of 360cm and a width of 80cm. The weight is 25kg.
The cost of the tarp and cord is about 30 dollars.
I made a similar canoe a few years ago during a survival exercise lasting several days. We used it to navigate a river. It took 2-3 hours to build it back then. But it certainly didn't have the stability of the canoe shown in this video.
Filming:
The construction time (including harvesting the hazelnuts) took about 6-7 hours.
I filmed the construction in three consecutive days, as the filming etc. took more time than I thought at the beginning.
A big thank goes to:
Privatwaldkoorperation in my local community for the hazelnut branches.
Oli and Daniela for accompanying me on my test drive.
Please do not imitate. It could be dangerous!!
