Robby Gordon and several members of his team headed north to Eldora Speedway on Wednesday afternoon for Gordon's debut in the Prelude to the Dream, an all-star charity racing event. With only one test session under his belt, Gordon hit the track in the Jim Beam dirt late-model prepped by Scott Bloomquist for two practice sessions on the half-mile track. Despite the tough competition from the seasoned dirt track veterans, Gordon qualified sixth and won his ten-lap heat, which resulted in an eighth place starting position for the main event.
After the drop of the green flag, the charge was on as Gordon made daring passes in order to gain valuable track position. Although there were no major incidents, the caution flag flew for several one-car spins. On the last restart, Gordon passed Clint Boyer for second place, and was hot on the tail of Tony Stewart. Before Gordon had a chance to make a pass on Stewart, time was up on the thirty lap event. Robby Gordon took the checker flag in second place.
"Scott Bloomquist and his team did an excellent job preparing the car for this race. I was told that if I was going to run it, I had to drive a Bloomquist car because they are the best, and I think we proved them right. I think if we would have had a few more laps or one more restart, I could have passed Tony Stewart for the win. I really would like to thank my sponsor Jim Beam for giving me the chance to come here and compete with the best of the best. I am very happy with my second place finish considering it was the first time I had ever seen that track. The event was a lot of fun, and it's even better knowing that it was for a good cause. I will definitely be back next year," Gordon stated.
