Described as "...beautiful, brilliant and bubbly," Yarel Ramos lights up the screen with a superb cross section of regional Mexican music. As the new face of E! Entertainment Latino and the host of Reventón con Yarel, she invites mun2's hip bi-cultural audience to share insightful interviews and special presentations as she showcases the most essential videos of the week as selected from sales charts, radio play and viewer requests, all highlighting "lo mejor de la musica Mexicana". The musical mix profiles a roster of Mexican Regional artists as they reveal the music that influenced them, and what they are listening to now.
A native of Los Angeles, Yarel was born the first of three children to Mexican immigrant parents in L.A.'s San Fernando Valley where she excelled in her studies as a self-professed "nerd." The duality of her identity: being both a first generation Mexican-American and a "Valley Girl," defined a powerful emerging consciousness that mirrored the legacy of her audience. "English was kind of set aside in our home," Ramos says. "My dad used to always tell me, 'En la casa, se habla espanol. When you go to school, you speak English; pero en tu casa, you speak Spanish.' It was a juggling act at times."
As a student at the University of Miami she demonstrated both her academic prowess and the media savvy instincts that would define her future as a journalist, as she inaugurated her career in television with the first-ever Spanish-language television program at her school and an internship at Telemundo -- all while supplementing her studies by teaching aerobics. After earning a double bachelor'sdegree in Broadcast Journalism and International Relations she returned home to Los Angeles.
Continuing with post graduate studies, Yarel is now studying for her Master's Degree from the University of Southern California. She was recently named a board member of Corazón de Vida, a non-profit volunteer organization that provides support for the homeless and abandoned children of Baja, Mexico, with the creed, "Ending the cycle of child homelessness...one child at a time." She was also honored by the Hispanic Women's Corporation with their National HWC Youth Leadership Award, commemorating her support of the community.
Yarel was recently featured in a Cox Communications campaign that reached out to Latino viewers with On Demand content and public service announcements as part of its partnership with The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC). The campaign, in Arizona, California, Las Vegas, Oklahoma and New England markets, included 30 and 60 second Spanish and English-language television and radio ads, direct mail, print, online banners and a social media presence on Facebook and Twitter. The campaign was designed to drive traffic to Cox retail locations, calls into the call centers in Spanish or English and Cox's websites. Yarel's visibility in the Latino community was a vital key to the success of the program.
On camera, conducting incisive interviews, or shining in the spotlight on the red carpet, Yarel Ramos radiates with the vivacious verve and sparkling charisma that has defined her as one of the bilingual media's most captivating personalities.
