African American Association of Ghana visit Nykinkyim Ancestral Veneration Ceremony

Описание: On Saturday, October 11, 2025, members of the African American Association of Ghana (AAAG) embarked on a powerful cultural journey to the Nkyinkyim Museum in Ada. The delegation participated in the Ancestor Veneration Ceremony, one of Ghana’s most sacred traditions honoring ancestry, unity, and remembrance.

Led by AAAG Vice President Maurice Cheetham, Co–Sergeant-at-Arms Tamica Atugba, and member Erica Asamoah, the group represented AAAG’s mission to strengthen ties between African Americans living in Ghana and the wider Ghanaian community.

Upon arrival, they were welcomed by drummers, dancers, and community elders whose rhythmic performances celebrated Ghanaian hospitality. A highlight of the day was a private tour guided by Kwame Akoto-Bamfo, founder and creative director of the Nkyinkyim Museum, known globally for his installations honoring enslaved Africans. Akoto-Bamfo shared the meaning behind the Ancestor Project—a cultural movement uniting art, spirituality, and remembrance.

Through drumming, storytelling, libation, and prayer, participants reconnected with ancestral wisdom and reflected on Ghana’s role as a gateway for diaspora homecoming. AAAG members described the experience as transformative, blending history, art, and spirituality into one powerful story of resilience and identity.

This collaboration between AAAG and African Roots Travel highlights how cultural tourism in Ghana continues to build bridges of education, healing, and unity—connecting the diaspora with their ancestral homeland.
