Описание: Sponsored by the Schoke Jewish Family Service of Fairfield County, this talk is the Ninth Annual Saul Cohen (z"l) Schoke JFS Lecture. Tiffany Shlain, the noted filmmaker and author, discusses her newest book, "24/6: The Power of Unplugging One Day a Week," which is essentially about creating a "Tech Shabbat" in your life where from Friday night to Saturday night, no "screen-based" technology is used. Shlain explains her own Jewish upbringing and that of her husband and explains how they came to create a somewhat modernized version of a traditional Jewish day of rest. She also explains the similarities and differences between the way the orthodox observe the Sabbath and the way she does; some would argue that her version is one that many less-observant Jews can latch onto without giving up modernity entirely. Shlain and her family are, like many Americans, heavy users of modern technology during the week. She rose to prominence as the creator of the "Webby" awards for the early internet, so her life has been infused with intense tech use for decades. But she has now become one of the most prominent proponents of the physical and psychological benefits of taking a break from screens for one entire day a week, and her infusion of this necessary break with the existing architecture in time of arguably the most important of all Jewish rituals has created the possibility not just for rest and renewal, but for spiritual upliftment. After Shlain's initial talk, she is interviewed with questions by Betsy Stone of the Jewish Federation. This program was sent to JBS electronically as a ZOOM program.
