Over Labor Day weekend in 2025, a friend and I kicked off our first off-roading adventure in the rugged beauty of Pisgah National Forest. We maded Lenoir, North Carolina our base camp, and arrived Friday afternoon, buzzing with anticipation. That evening, we dove straight into the legendary Maple Sally Road—a winding, remote trail that snakes through dense forest and offers a perfect blend of solitude and scenery. It was the kind of route that makes you fall in love with off-roading: gravel crunching under the tires, golden light filtering through the trees, and just enough challenge to keep things exciting.
Saturday morning, we followed up with Old NC 105—a rugged, scenic trail that skirts the edge of Linville Gorge. It was a breathtaking ride from start to finish, but it was Maple Sally that truly set the tone for the weekend.
