After the debacle that was my 3k race the day before, I was happy I didn't have to wait long for some redemption. This was a 13-ish k, so about 8 miles, and my strategy was to keep my heart rate under 170. At times it felt slow, but with my current fitness level, it was the smart thing to do to make sure I had a chance to finish the obstacles.
First obstacle was getting there. We couldn't park at the venue, which was an hour from the stadium, and the shuttle system they set up was a mess. We ended up taking an Uber to the venue (great call, Ben) but the waves didn't start until 90 minutes after they were supposed to.
Once the race started, I have to say, the venue was amazing. It was on a coffee farm and was just beautiful. And I got to enjoy the views since I was so slow.
I got lost once, tripped over some roots, failed a banana rig (again), and am absolutely horrible at the laser pistol, but I finished with just one penalty loop and was a finisher!
Next year's race is in Sweden, and I wouldn't mind giving it a try while being in better shape and the young guy in my new age group!
