Описание: The rocky trail along the East Fork of the San Gabriel River to the Bridge to Nowhere is not only one of the best trails in the San Gabriel Mountains, but it's also one of the most unique hiking experiences you'll ever have. While the river banks are wooded and quite lovely, most of the trail traverses the rim above the high water line and travels through scrub brush. The highlight of the hike is the mysterious bridge built over the east fork in 1936. In the 1930's a road did lead to it, but was swept away by floods in 1938.

After you leave the crowded trailhead area, you will increasingly find yourself awed by the rugged canyons deep in the Sheep Mountain Wilderness. Although the trail begins in the Angeles National Forest, you’ll enter the Wilderness area after a couple of miles. Multiple river crossings and shaded glens await you on this trek, with the final destination being a 130-foot concrete span bridge left over from an attempt to build a road north through the canyon. Most of the road is gone now, but the bridge still stands. You may not be allowed to access or cross the bridge - please respect all signage.

The route can be a bit challenging with many intersecting trails, washed-out sections, and over a half dozen stream crossings. Be sure to come prepared with proper footwear, trekking poles, and plenty of water and snacks. Use caution when hiking this trail during the spring or after extreme weather. The creek crossings are normally straight forward but can be dangerous when the river is flowing strongly.

To get to the trailhead, take San Gabriel Canyon Road north. Turn right at the intersection to East Fork Road instead of continuing north to Crystal Lake. Stay left on Camp Bonita Road and the trailhead can be found at the end of the road. This trail requires an Adventure Pass to park in the lot. This pass can be bought at many small shops in the area. The parking area fills up fast due to this hike’s popularity, so be sure to arrive early. Avoid parking along the road if the lot is full as you may receive a ticket.
