The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara is finally ready for the road — not just in India, but across 100 global markets, making it Suzuki’s first worldwide electric vehicle. We got exclusive access to drive the near-final global-spec model in the UK, where the first shipments have already arrived.
In this first-drive review, we break down everything you need to know before the India launch:
• EV Platform & Battery Options
Two battery packs will be offered — 49 kWh and 61 kWh. Export models also get AllGrip AWD, but India will likely get 2WD only. Maruti claims a realistic, efficiency-first tuning, prioritising range over outright punch.
• Driving Experience
The e Vitara feels very different from a typical Maruti. Steering feel, high-speed stability and handling are tuned for global markets. While the instant acceleration isn’t aggressive like most EVs, the power delivery is smooth and predictable.
Ride quality, however, feels firmer and a bit bouncy on some surfaces — something we hope is tuned better for Indian roads.
• Cabin & Features
The interior marks a big step up for Maruti:
– 10.1-inch touchscreen
– 10.25-inch digital cluster
– Level 2 ADAS
– Ventilated seats
– Sunroof
– Wireless charger
– Rotary shift selector
Rear seat space is impressive thanks to a flat floor, although headroom is slightly compromised.
• Design
Maruti calls the styling “Modern Polyhedral Architecture” — a muscular, geometric, metal-beast design theme with:
– Distinct LED DRL signature
– Chunky cladding
– Aerodynamic alloy wheels
– Connected LED tail lamp
– Bold proportions for a compact EV SUV
• Boot Space
244 to 562 litres depending on the rear seat recline angle— smaller than the Grand Vitara but quite usable.
• Safety & Tech
– 7 airbags
– Level 2 ADAS
– 360° camera
– TPMS
– ISOFIX
– EV-specific menus and energy screens
• Market Strategy
Maruti is positioning the e Vitara for high volumes through Nexa, with aggressive pricing expected, nationwide charging support and possibly subscription/lease options.
Competition:
Tata Curvv EV, Sierra EV, MG ZS EV, MG Comet’s sibling Windsor, Mahindra BE.06 and Hyundai Creta EV.
