Arancina or arancino? There’s much debate in Sicily over whether the name is female (ending in “a”) or male (ending in “o”). In fact, Sicilians on Western and Eastern sides of the island are split between the words when they reference a single arancini. For example, in Licata—where recipe author Alessandra is from—they call it arancina, the female version, of which she is very proud.

Arancina ou Arancino ? En Sicile, la question de savoir si le nom de ce mets est féminin (se terminant par « a ») ou masculin (se terminant par « o ») suscite un grand débat. En effet, les Siciliens de l’ouest et de l’est de l’île sont divisés; d’un côté on dit une « arancina » et de l’autre, un « arancino ». Par exemple, à Licata, ville d’origine d’Alessandra, créatrice de la recette, on emploie le nom féminin « arancina » (ce dont elle est très fière).
