Here’s your reminder: it’s time to start planting ginger if you want a good harvest next year!
For those in tropical regions, you can grow ginger year-round outdoors. But for those of us in colder climates, the best time to start is December through January indoors to ensure the full 8–10 months of growth needed.
Even in cold climates, ginger is one of the most rewarding crops to grow once you nail the timing. You can find rhizomes at your local grocery store or online. Be sure to choose ones with visible “eyes” or nodes and minimal blemishes.
In this video, I’m using ½-gallon pots, but if you have the space, 1-gallon pots are even better—they give the roots more room to grow and help prevent the soil from drying out too quickly. If you’re tight on space, ½-gallon pots will work too—just don’t forget to water as needed!
With the right timing and a little patience, you can grow your own fresh ginger.
So, are you planning to grow ginger this season? Let me know!
