"All who love are blind,"
So true, bestie,
"When your heart's on fire, ...
... smoke gets in your eyes."
Kern's harmony heaves in and out like a diaphragm. You must breathe with the harmony or else choke.
"All who love are blind,"
Beethoven cast waves when he dropped E-flat's floor to C-flat, transfiguring root into third and plastering the key's undiatonic, pungent G-flat into a tall and stable column casting a shadow over the bridge. C-flat major does not return the favor; whereas D-natural ignites the A melody's opening phrase and resolves its most beautiful, E-double-flat, the flatted third of C-flat, is not allowed to enter the bridge. Such is blind love; you can only be as sure of love's truth as bright as your heart burns; symmetry is only something you can see; smoke gets in your eyes. In an attempt to add some balance to our unfair world, I introduce an E-double-flat passing chord in the third bar of the bridge and for a moment I recall the light from another side of the circle, from D-as-seventh-of-E-flat; I feel nostalgia for a moment six bars ago and also one six bars ahead. Such is blind love, unorientable, acreep when you least expect it; smoke gets in your eyes.
