Pakistan Opens New Maritime Route for Arbaeen Pilgrims

Описание: Pakistan has issued its first official permit for international maritime passenger transport, paving the way for a new sea route to facilitate the travel of Arbaeen pilgrims to Iran and Iraq amid ongoing restrictions on overland journeys.

According to Middle East News, preparations for launching the maritime service from Pakistani ports are in their final stages, and the route is expected to become operational later this month. The move is being described by officials as a significant development in the country’s pilgrimage transport infrastructure.

The decision follows recent limitations imposed on land travel for Arbaeen pilgrims heading to Iran, increasing demand for alternative and more reliable routes. Pakistani authorities said the inaugural trial opening of the international maritime travel terminal is scheduled for January 8. For the first time, a private company in Pakistan has been granted a license to operate international sea travel services.

Officials stated that the maritime service will enable pilgrims to travel by sea to Iran, Iraq, and other regional countries, offering a safer and more cost-effective option compared with air travel, particularly during peak pilgrimage seasons.

Pakistan’s Ministry of Maritime Affairs has also held consultations with representatives from Iran, Iraq, and Yemen, requesting them to nominate maritime operators to cooperate in the initiative. The aim is to establish a coordinated network to ease the movement of pilgrims and reduce border and logistical challenges during high-volume religious occasions.

Authorities added that, beyond supporting Arbaeen pilgrims, the new service is expected to boost Pakistan’s maritime sector and create additional economic opportunities at the country’s ports.”
