Amy Schumer calls her recent Instagram exchange with Hilaria Baldwin a ‘wild ride’

Amy Schumer was surprised at how much attention was paid to her recent Instagram posts teasing Hilaria Baldwin about the controversy over her ethnic background. Baldwin—a yoga instructor and wellness expert and Alec Baldwin's wife-- came under scrutiny in December when some social media users questioned whether she was actually of Spanish descent. Baldwin posted several stories on Instagram explaining that she was born and raised in Boston with parents who are not Spanish, but also said she and her family have spent a lot of time in Spain.
Schumer had reposted several of Baldwin's posts of Baldwin posing with her kids, but Schumer's posts included comic comments, making fun of herself. One of Schumer's Instagram posts showed her in a large sun hat with the caption : "I get it. I went to Spain a couple times and loved it too."
Many of the posts have since been deleted after Schumer realized she was unintentionally sending a message that she might not be supportive of others.     
"Oh, my God. That was so intense. I had no idea, you know?" Schumer told the Associated Press in an interview.
"You know, obviously I had no idea. And then I was just kind of reading and following it like everybody was doing. And then I was like, 'Oh, I want to take myself out of this narrative. I didn't mean for this to happen,' you know, but it was wild. It was a wild ride that I feel like we all went on. And it was so strange, wasn't it?"
Schumer spoke about the incident while promoting her appearance in a Super Bowl ad for Hellmann's mayonnaise. As she often does, the comic actress found the funny in a sensitive situation.
"It was hard to wrap your head around it, it was like a lot to process. It was…. I feel like she was probably the only one who was like, 'Oh, thank God, the insurrection! So people will stop talking about me! (laughs.)"
