Juun Bug covers 'The Anacreontic Song', known as "To Anacreon in Heaven", a song written by John Stafford Smith (British) in 1773 and fully published by 1780. The tune of the song was later used by Francis Scott Key (American) in 1814. By combining the tune of Smiths' song with a poem he had written called "Defense of Fort McHenry" (inspired by his witnessing of the bombardment of Fort Henry in the War of 1812), the song we know today as 'The Star-Spangled Banner' was born. This battle was argueably the most important battle in the history of the U.S.A. The British used all the fire-power they had in the hopes of downing the 15 star-ed flag which stood at the fort. Despite them firing heavy and relentless artillery throughout the night, when the sun rose in the morning "the dawn's early light", it could then be seen that the flag was still in fact standing, propped up by the bodies of the men who gave their lives to protect it - as it was understood that if the flag had fallen, the war would be lost, as a downed flag would signal full surrender to the British. In 1931 'The-Star Spangled Banner' was officially adopted as our national anthem. Enjoy! Happy #flagday (June 14th, 2025) Be safe! #usa
