Badik :
When two disputing families reach an impasse in mediation, duel is the way out. Known as Sigajang Laleng Lipa' in Bugis tradition or Sitobo' Lalang Lipa' in Makassar tradition. The term means a man-to-man fight in a sarong using a badik (dagger). It is Indeed horrific as it can bring on fatality. But in this situation, killing tendency is too illogical, even it is hard to hold back for the sake of ending things up. Maintaining siri' (honor) is very principal as the orientation of a living soul of Bugis-Makassar without holding each other's grudge. The duel implicitly tells no matter how complex the problem is, better solved inoffensively. As much as possible, two people from each side do not meet in sarong where badik can give them a real hurt and let destiny decides who will die. Sigajang Laleng Lipa' or Sitobo' Lalang Lipa' becomes one of Bugis-Makassar kingdoms' legacy which is now a part of cultural ritual.
