Many colonies die in February, not because they run out of honey, but because they can’t reach it.
Late winter is one of the most critical periods for a honey bee colony.
In this video, I explain why colonies often consume the center frames first, how the winter cluster works, and why brood production makes this period especially dangerous. When brood is present, bees must maintain a constant temperature of around 35°C (95°F), which dramatically increases food consumption.
