Swamiji traveled in order to give his initiation (in Telugu, he called his "gift") into meditation to all who wanted. His programs consisted of initiation, an hour of meditation, and an hour of spiritual song (bhajans). There was no lecture and no teaching -- Swamiji taught through experience. During the meditation and bhajans, Swamiji is in samadhi. After the arthi (camphor flame) people could go up to him individually and ask for blessings. Typically he blessed ash (vibhuti) for mental and physical healing.
This video was taken by Steve Zuckerman in 1989 at three different programs in England. Edited by Tom Palotas. The scenes are very typical of Swamiji's public programs in England and the United States over 1987 through 1991, and in Italy, as that video by Steve shows -- with the exception that I wish we had thought of touching Swamiji's feet as he left the programs. But then, had we done that in Seattle and Portland, it would have taken a long time and would have been hard on Swamiji to have to wade through so many devotees swept away by his mere presence.
