These are the basic exercises you learned with Dr. Sawhill to help relieve back pain, strengthen your 4 core muscle groups and help prevent injuries to your spine. The first part shows how to do each exercise. Starting at 9:08 , the follow-along with docsawhill exercises begin, click on the timestamp to fast forward ahead.
These exercises are designed to slowly bring your back to the solid core design that it is. After trauma and injury and/or longstanding pain, wading in slowly back to strengthening is better than burning yourself out with rapid repetitions which could potentially cause re-injury. Remember, one exercise rep done well is much more effective than 10 sloppy repetitions.
These exercises should never be painful. If you experience pain, check and correct your form, decrease the number of reps if your injury is acute. If you still have pain, please schedule an appointment to review the exercises again with Dr. Sawhill.
TIPS: Use you focus first to visualize the muscles targeted. See the form and the exercise in your mind first. Focus on how your body feels before, during and after.
